Photo Challenge #25

Anyway, this week's challenge is to do a setup to specifically "sell a product"- this can be anything, really, for example : hat, shoes, cat food, soap- anything. The challenge is to do this with a friend, relative, or pet as your model.Submit 3 photos- and let us know which is your favorite. These may be b/w, color, or anything in between.Editing is allowed. And, as always.... have fun!

This was an interesting week for me. Not totally excited about these pictures, but I think they're the best I got!

I know the challenge said 3 pictures....so here's just a funny one that I took along the way. The food is so good, the cat likes it, too!!

I think my favorite picture is the first one. I like the portion of Lilah that got in the picture and the angle of the bag.

  1. haha!! the last one is cool!
I can kinda tell that you weren't too sure about what to enter for this week, but glad that you entered anyway!
The ones with Lilah in them would work really well together- you get enough information that you can tell that it's the same dog in the picture. I appreciate the fact that you took a chance and played around with different points of view on these- they also have the same type of lighting in them, too- so my brain naturally puts these together. The middle pic shows pretty well how the food was so delish- great capture with the tong licking the lips! The eye bothers me a bit, though- a hard thing to avoid when using a direct flash.
I think if it were possible to set this up either outside or in a room with more natural light, you would have a little easier time with it- you wouldn't have to worry so much about getting weird shadows or crazy reflecting puppy eyes ;)- and natural light is just more flattering~
Oh, and I like the cat's expression in the last photo- like "what are you looking at.... there's nothing wrong with me eating this food!"
    Ha!

  3. Hiya. Scott here, Diana's brother. Thinking I might join this here group, though I'm not much of a photographer.

I agree with you that the first one of these is the strongest of these. The last one with the cat is pretty good as well. The cat is an attractive one and makes a good subject. You seem to have struggled a bit with framing. I wish I had suggestions. I'm not much of a photographer.

  4. I also like the first photo best--really displays the product well, with a nice shot of the dog too (and it's looking in the same direction as the dog on the bag!). Not to crazy about the second photo--mostly because it kind of creeps me out when animals' eyes are glowing in photos... But I do like the tongue licking the lips :)

  5. Hi Mary! Welcome back!

I love that you used your animals. They really are lovely. I can't believe you have two dogs AND a cat!

I really liked your idea of the food vs. animal theme. It seems, though, that you struggled a little with lighting. I can tell in a few photos that you probably used your flash, which can give the image a very washed out look, as well as illuminate the animal's eyes. Oh I just read that Emily said something similar! Don't be afraid to experiment a little in your house/apartment. Every window or sets of windows has a sweet spot, depending on the different times of day. After living in our place for three years I know just when to take pictures and where when I need certain kinds of light. Natural light is both the most accessible and pleasing form of light. The best way to use it is if it's diffused instead of direct...although direct light can be affective depending on how it's used. Like I said, don't be afraid to experiment. From what I saw in a couple of the pictures it looks like you have some lovely natural light in your place. I can see a patch of it under the window in the first picture. :)

My favorite image this week is the last one with your cat. There's nice movement with how her head is turned. I enjoy how the white of her fur is balanced with the white bowl.

I think this was a hard challenge for everyone, myself included. I'm glad that everyone gave it a go!

have a great rest of your week!
